Nanny Cameras- Types of Nanny Cameras, how to choose them and how they are used

For many years, people have been using nanny cameras to ensure that the caregivers take proper care of their children. In the past decade, these devices have become even more popular and more technologically advanced. If you are interested in buying one, you will probably want to know all about these kinds of devices and their features. To help you buy one, I decided to write this article and write about the different types of cameras and how they can be used.

Why do people use them?

Raising a child all by yourself is never easy and it never will be. Not only do you have to invest most of your time for your child, but you also have to cater to other segments of your life. Work, family, health, and friends. Just because you had a baby does not mean you can forget about everything else. But, when your little one is still very young, you do not exactly have a lot of free time to dedicate yourself to these other parts of your life. This is why a lot of people decide to hire a nanny.

However, finding the right nanny for your needs is a bit complicated. It is difficult to find a candidate that you can entrust with your child. How can you know whether they will take care of your little loved ones properly? Well, you cannot really know that, unless you personally see how they treat your baby. But, what if the person that you hired is putting on a show in front of you?

If you want to figure out whether you have found a reliable childcarer, you can record them with a nanny camera while you are not at home.

Types of Nanny cameras

Before you set out shopping for this kind of advice, I think that it would be best to know about the different types you can find on the market.

Wired

In the past, most of the nanny cameras in the market were wired. This is mostly because wireless technology was still not as developed as it is today. Basically, you had to connect to the cam with some kind of storage unit to store all the video footage. Or, you could connect it directly to a TV or a computer for a live feed.

But, as I said, this is outdated technology and you probably will not be able to find a lot of devices on the market that still rely on a wired connection.

Wireless

These days, almost every device at our home has implemented wireless technology. This wireless technology allows us to connect to the Internet. We want our TVs, computers, tablets, and smartphones to easily connect to the Internet and this technology helps us with that.

Fortunately, wireless technology has also been implemented in nanny cameras. The feed from the cam can be directly and wirelessly transmitted to a computer. From that computer, you can watch the live feed in high resolution.

Depending on the device, you could even watch the feed on your phone, no matter where you are. As long as the camera is connected to the Wi-Fi, you will be able to watch the videos from anywhere.

Of course, if you do not have a reliable router for Wi-Fi at home, you could always add a microSD card for local storage. Most of these Wi-Fi cameras today have a slot for that kind of storage.

Things to consider when choosing a nanny cam

If you are entirely sure that you want this kind of device in your home to ensure that the caregiver is properly taking care of your child, you should first consider different factors before you buy it. Here are some of the most important features of these cams that might help you make a decision faster.

Large battery

I believe that this is one of the most important factors you need to consider when buying a nanny cam. Since you will not be around well your caregiver is in your home, you want the cam to last as long as possible. That is impossible without a large battery or without its being connected to electrical power.

Those that come with a good better life can last summer around 5 to 6 hours which I think is more than enough. The higher-end models could even come with a battery that lasts for 10 hours.

Motion detection

If you want even longer battery life, I suggest that you look for a model that has a motion detection sensor. This means that the device will record only if there is some kind of motion in front of it. When there is not any kind of motion, the camera will be turned off and will save battery.

This kind of sensor is also useful because you will not have to sift through hours and hours of video footage. You only have to go through the most important parts. The parts where there is some kind of movement.

Video quality

If you truly want to see how the nanny is taking care of your children, you will want high-quality video footage. If the quality is too low, you will not be able to see anything. This is why I suggest looking for devices that support at least 720P or HD video recording.

How to use a nanny camera

The last thing you need to know is how to use one. Basically, you have two options. The nanny camera can either be hidden or not. This depends on what you want to achieve with it. If your plan is to spy on the caregiver, I suggest that you keep the device hidden inside of a certain object. Most people put it in toys, clocks, etc. But, if that is not your priority and you just want open surveillance of your house, there is no need to hide it.

I hope that this article has been informative enough on the subject of nanny cameras and that it will help you choose the right one and use it properly.
